| In the hot seat: Visvin Reddy |
Now lets look at the facts and what he was actually saying. In the last couple of years we saw a drastic increase in corrupt activity by not only high placed ministers and members of Parliament, but it would seem the cancer has now spread to local government officials all hopping on the band wagon to get a piece of the action while the going is hot. The most recent of these scandals is the incident with minister Sicelo Shiceka now being investigated by the Public Protector for allegedly abusing municipal taxes to fund the building of a huge mansion for himself in one of the poorest villages nl. Ingquza Hill. Not only is he tax payers money to fund the building of HIS house, but he is also abusing municipal property in the form of trucks to card gallons of water to his new home whilst running water is a service Ingquza Hill's residence only dream about. To rub even more salt on the wound for the people of the village, his "castle" will also be the only building in the area that will have electricity. Over and above that he is being investigated by the PP on allegations of spending R335 000 of tax money to go visit his girlfriend in a Switzerland prison, spending R640 000 in a year to stay in one of the most expensive hotels in Cape Town and blowing R160 000 in eight months to fly his family around South Africa.
Now one might say that we cannot judge the reputation of an entire party of the misdemeanors of one individual, but isn't it those individuals suppose to uphold the values and the image of the organization? No matter what political party, charity or organization in general a person belongs to we are all representatives of the organization we are members of. If one person falters it reflects badly on the image of the institution.
Other reports a while back showed numerous ministers spending millions of Rands on new official vehicles all fitted out with the latest in entertainment features etc. What was wrong with the old official vehicles? Sure the constitution does make allowances for the purchasing of new vehicles for newly appointed ministers, it however doesn't stipulate that they are entitled to the latest in luxury driving and expensive technology. If Western Cape Premier Hellen Zille can be happy with a modest second hand (not new) E200 model Mercedes Benz provided by the government garage, in fact she insisted on driving a cheaper official car rather one that would have cost the tax payers R15 000 a month. The new mayor of the Whinelands District Municipality decided to stick with his second hand Mercedes ML320 and Caity of Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato has also stuck with his Toyota Prius he inherited from Zille. Now with those facts in mind could some one explain to me why three ANC cabinet ministers had to spend R4.9 million on new luxury cars?
The ANC corruption doesn't stop there however. In a recent speech by Premier Zille in the Riverlea District she pointed out that most of the residents in the area have never seen their local Councillor and would therefore not know that he had, in an act of self enrichment, awarded the tender for RDP housing in Pennyville and the Bond housing development in Riverlea to a private developer who in return gave the esteemed Councillor a hefty discount on the building of his own house. When said Councillor became under investigation by the Human Rights Commission he was subpoenaed to appear before them he, in an act of open defiance to our human rights, simply ignored the subpoena.
On top of all this we have an ANC president who only has a Grade 7 (Standard 5) education and who has been accused of fraud, corruption and rape. The president of the ANCYL has been accused of illegal tender corruption, hate speech, contempt of court, verbal abuse of a foreign journalist, racism and sexism. The ANC in general has reached new hights in the in house struggles as officials within the ANC ruthlessly vie for power against their own comrades. The list goes on and on. So what Reddy is actually saying is that Jesus condones corruption, hate speech, weak and even no service delivery, fraud, miss-management and even rape because regardless of all this he maintains that Jesus would still be choosing ANC. Not to mention that he regards the Christian deity more important than the deity of the Muslims, Hindu's, Buddhists etc, and if he wanted their support he's doing a lousy
Now, does this sound like a political power Jesus would vote for had he the slightest inclination of interest in South African politics? More realistically however... does this sound like a political power you'd vote for? I would love to hear you opinion dear reader. Any comments are more than welcome.
